Delta Chapter had a busy few months at the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017.  We said goodbye to a long-time member, Sally Burton.  She and her husband, Richard have moved to St. Simon Island to live full time and be near their daughter and grandchildren.  Sally has been a faithful member and served as vice-president and president of our chapter.  We will miss seeing her at our meetings.  Her son David still lives in the Atlanta area, so we hope she will be in town for a meeting occasionally.

Our KDE Chapter has been focusing on promoting literacy and the enjoyment of books for disadvantaged children.   At the Christmas Luncheon, members brought assorted books to be given to Hagar House in Decatur.  This is a shelter where women and children can live for a short time until the mothers can stabilize their home life and find employment.  They have a library at the shelter so we donated our books to help the children have good books to read while living at Hagar House.

In February, our chapter meeting was held at a new location recommended by Lynn Grabe, one of our members.  This interesting restaurant is located in a refurbished warehouse in Chamblee, GA.  We made plans to attend the Southeast Regional meeting in Columbia, SC.  We also have been collecting contributions for a scholarship we plan to present to a student who is studying to become a teacher.  Gwen Middlebrooks knows of students from Spelman who need money to buy books for their studies.  We will be taking applications and selecting a deserving student to receive a scholarship in May.
